The Mayor of Woking cuts the ribbon at the opening of CITC's new facility

CITC Sports Hub officially opened 27 Jul, 2022

On Friday 15 July CITC’s Sports Hub was formally opened at an event attended by the Mayor of Woking, local MP Jonathan Lord, local councillors and project partners.

The new facility, incorporating a pavilion and 3G sports pitch, built within the grounds of Woking College, is the result of CITC’s partnership with Woking Borough Council and Woking College. Funding for this community initiative included £379,000 from the Football Foundation and £150,000 from London Marathon Community Trust – we are grateful for all contributions.

John Monday, Chief Executive Officer of CITC, said: “The new facility is a community game-changer on two levels. The pitch is already used by Woking College, Woking FC Academy and Women’s teams, as well as partner clubs such as Woking Tigers, Goldsworth Park Rangers, Woking Cougars and Surrey Schools Girls. In addition, the versatile meeting room, which accommodates 80, is a great event space and we’re already seeing an increase in bookings.”

The Hub will provide a base for CITC’s many community activities. The organisation already works with over 2000 people every month, from working with schools and disability groups to supporting adults struggling with mental health issues. Post-pandemic, CITC’s outreach work is picking up pace and new initiatives include supporting dementia sufferers and encouraging more girls and women to participate in football.

Cllr Will Forster, Woking Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Ward Councillor commented: “The health and wellbeing of local communities is a key priority for this administration [the recently elected council], so it is fabulous to see this high-quality community facility come to fruition. Having opened to the public earlier this year, I am especially pleased to see how well it is being used, with a huge number of people and diverse communities using the facility.”
